The lungs are organs whose importance is no longer to be proven for the proper functioning of the human body.

They help, among other things, to maintain the oxygenation of your body.

They have a particular function (requiring the diaphragm) and it may happen that they need a specific work to ensure better performance.

How to work the lungs

In this sense, the question arises of how to help the lungs to function properly.

In other words, how to work the lungs efficiently.

Exercise

The lungs are one of the main parts of breathing and therefore it is they that supply your muscles with oxygen.

They need to be maintained and this requires some effort on the part of the person.

A sedentary lifestyle literally atrophies your lungs, if you don't exercise them!

The first thing you should do to work your lungs is exercise.

Those recommended are cardiovascular exercises.

These are exercises designed to help your heart beat faster and therefore allow better circulation of your blood.

These exercises will therefore work your lungs and give them the strength and capacity necessary for optimal functioning.

Many cardiovascular training exercises are available to you to help you exercise your lungs.

The very first ones are running and walking.

Whether you do it at home on a mat or outdoors, these two types of exercise go a long way in strengthening your lungs.

You can also choose to use a normal bike or an indoor bike.

Aerobics and dancing are also activities you can do to work your lungs and improve your respiratory capacity.

By doing these exercises for at least half an hour a day, you will get great results for your lung health.

Exercising in water is also a great way to exercise your lungs.

Like the activities listed above, these physical exercises require a certain amount of effort on your cardiovascular system and therefore strain your lungs.

This allows you to practice exercises such as swimming or scuba diving.

Depending on your preference and ability, you will feel more comfortable and your breathing will improve.

Aquatic aerobics and pushing objects through water can also help.

Finally, for those who would like a more intense training for their lungs, activities at altitude are recommended.

You have the possibility of walking or running while climbing heights.

NOTE: Personally, I love mountain trail running, nothing better to boost your oxygenation.

Whether it is slopes near the house, stairs or even hiking in the mountains, all of these exercises are really beneficial for those who want to work their lungs.

However, it should be noted that all of these exercises should be done gently since they have a direct impact on cardiovascular health.

It is especially not about going to exhaust yourself with too intense physical exercises.

Do breathing exercises

The lungs are among the first organs related to respiration.

Therefore, breathing exercises are a great way to get them to work.

The first thing to do is to breathe deeply, ie with your diaphragm, located at the level of the solar plexus.

Rapid breathing means that the amount of air entering your lungs is quite low, and more importantly, it requires the thorax.

This weakens the alveoli located at the bottom of the lungs which sometimes receive too little air for their correct functioning.

In order to overcome this, it is advisable to breathe deeply, by practicing diaphragmatic breathing.

Take deep breaths (in the belly) so that your lungs are getting as much air as possible and providing good performance.

To do this, you just need to breathe very slowly and deeply into your belly, and breathe out just as slowly.

Similarly, it is advisable to use your diaphragm more when you breathe.

This will allow you to breathe better and strengthen your lungs.

In fact, don't forget that the diaphragm is the respiratory muscle that allows the lungs to inflate and deflate.

Improve your lifestyle

Apart from physical activity and breathing, your lungs also need maintenance.

Staying in the best possible conditions allows them to work more efficiently and to be strengthened.

To do this, you are advised to change all your bad habits.

Between poor nutrition and the consumption of alcohol, cigarettes and other drugs, you interfere with the proper functioning of your lungs and can cause them great damage.

Also, engaging in activities such as music and especially singing is a great way to work out your lungs.

Finally, it is advisable to change the way you hold yourself.

By adopting good posture, you can avoid compressing your lungs and blocking your diaphragm.

In conclusion, your lungs are precious organs that must be maintained through a healthy lifestyle, good physical activity and good breathing (nasal and diaphragmatic).
